Advocacy, support with decisions and safeguarding
In the course of our work Psychiatry-UK promotes independence, equality, social justice and social inclusion. Our clients may, on occasion require support with particular decisions pertaining to their health and wellbeing. In such instances advocacy can help people become more aware of their own rights, exercise those rights and be involved in and influence decisions that are being made about their future.
Psychiatry-UK will ensure you can access the proper advocacy should you require it whether that is your Lasting Powers of Attorney Appointee, if you have one, or a “non-instructed” advocate such as an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA). This will be in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the related Liberty Protection Safeguards (formerly Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.)
